The Perfect Moving Checklist

Moving can be a complex process that requires careful planning and organization. To help you stay on top of things, here's a checklist that starts from 4 weeks out to 1 week out to moving day:

4 Weeks Out:

● Create a moving folder: Designate a folder or a binder to keep all your moving-related documents, including contracts, quotes, receipts, and important contact information.

● Start decluttering: Begin decluttering your home room by room. Sort items into categories like donate, sell, discard, and keep. This is a good time to downsize and get rid of items you no longer need or use.

● Research and hire a moving company: Get quotes from several moving companies and compare their services, pricing, and reviews. Book your preferred moving company and confirm the moving date and details in writing.

● Notify important parties: Inform important parties of your upcoming move, such as your current and future utility companies, post office, schools, healthcare providers, and any subscriptions or services you need to update or cancel.

3 Weeks Out:

● Start packing: Begin packing non-essential items that you won't need before the move. Label your boxes with their contents and the room they belong to for easy unpacking.

● Plan for special items: Make arrangements for special items such as valuable belongings, fragile items, or plants. Consider packing them separately or making special arrangements with the moving company.

● Change your address: Visit the post office or go online to officially change your address. Notify banks, credit card companies, insurance providers, and other relevant parties of your address change.

● Notify important contacts: Inform important contacts such as friends, family, and work about your upcoming move. Share your new address and contact information.

2 Weeks Out:

● Pack a moving day essentials box: Pack a box with essential items you'll need for the first few days at your new home, such as toiletries, clothes, medications, and important documents. Keep this box with you or label it as "Open First."

● Confirm details with the moving company: Confirm the details of your move with the moving company, including the moving date, time, and any special instructions. Make sure they have your contact information and vice versa.

● Finish packing: Continue packing and labeling your boxes. Make sure to properly secure fragile items and clearly mark boxes containing delicate items.

● Notify important parties: Notify any remaining parties of your address change, such as your employer, schools, and any subscription or service providers you may have missed.

1 Week Out:

● Confirm moving day logistics: Confirm the details of the moving day with your moving company, including the pick-up time, parking arrangements, and any other special instructions.

● Pack a suitcase: Pack a suitcase with enough clothes, toiletries, and other essentials for the first few days at your new home. This will ensure you have everything you need while you settle in.

● Disassemble furniture: Disassemble any furniture that needs to be taken apart for the move, and pack the hardware, screws, and other small parts in labeled bags.

● Prepare for moving day: Pack a box with snacks, water, and other necessities for moving day. Make sure you have cash or check on hand to tip the movers or for any unexpected expenses.

Moving Day:

● Double-check everything: Double-check all the rooms, closets, and cabinets to ensure nothing is left behind. Make sure all boxes are properly labeled and ready to be loaded onto the moving truck.

● Be present during the move: Be present during the move to oversee the process, answer any questions, and provide instructions to the movers.

● Perform a final walkthrough: Before leaving your old home, perform a final walkthrough to make sure nothing has been overlooked. Check all rooms, closets, and cabinets to ensure nothing is left
